London Dry Gin (70cl) by Gounds For Good
WHAT IF COFFEE WASTE COULD BE USED FOR A GREATER GOOD?
A major downside to our favourite drink is that most coffee grounds are used only once and then succumb to landfill.
Decomposing coffee grounds in bulk quantities give off harmful Methane gas, which is around x34 more potent than Carbon Dioxide as a greenhouse gas.
Methane gas is thus a primary cause of global warming.
The growing coffee culture exacerbates the problem of abundant, wet, and heavy coffee grounds, which incur high commercial waste removal costs for coffee establishments.
Grounds For Good, founded in 2021 by retired medic Dr. Rosie Oretti during lockdown, aims to transform this "waste" into a valuable resource for community and wellbeing.
Every day, the UK drinks 98 million cups of coffee, resulting in hundreds of thousands of tonnes of spent grounds that often pollute landfills with potent methane.
Recognising the untapped potential in coffee grounds' flavour, aroma, texture, and physical properties, Grounds For Good acts as "coffee alchemists.
"We innovatively transform this waste into high-end, functional luxury products, many of which are market firsts. Our creations range from flavoured gin, vodka, and chocolates. Committed to sustainability, we use minimal, recyclable packaging and eco-friendly ingredients. Furthermore, we are expanding our coffee ground collection from independent shops to convert them into fertiliser and biofuel for the Welsh national grid, actively promoting a circular economy. Our unique, science-driven approach allows us to explore novel transformations, reflected in our branding".
