Our Story
Jamie and Sarah Stokes set up The Yorkshire Kitchen after making their own brandy butter just for fun. They took a batch to sell at a Christmas market and the reaction was good enough to convince them there was a proper business in it, so they built out a wider range of sweet and savoury flavoured butters from there.
Trading at Chatsworth Country Fair turned out to be the turning point. A member of James Martin's Saturday Kitchen production team stopped at their stand and after sending over some samples, they were invited to appear on the show. Their Garlic & Herb butter has been used by James Martin ever since, a fitting match given he's Yorkshire born and known for his love of butter.
The business has kept building momentum since. The Yorkshire Kitchen has gone on to sign with a national distributor, win Great Taste Awards for their butters and appear on QVC with their gift boxes of sweet and savoury butters now a regular fixture on QVC's shelves.
Today Jamie and Sarah are working on building up their stockist list further, with farm shops, delis, butchers and hotels all on their radar as they push harder into retail and hospitality.
Meet The Team
Jamie, a born and bred Yorkshire lad, and Sarah, an adopted Yorkshire lass, run The Yorkshire Kitchen together as a husband and wife team. Between them they handle everything from recipe development to production, working from their base in South Yorkshire.
How It's Made
Every butter starts with just two ingredients, pasteurised Yorkshire butter and salt, before any flavour is added. The base butter comes from a family-run dairy in Grassington, in the Yorkshire Dales, with over 95% of the milk used sourced directly from the local farming community.
High butterfat content
The butter itself is rich and creamy thanks to its high butterfat content, giving it a smooth, spreadable texture before any flavouring is worked in.
Quality flavourings
Sweet flavours include honey and cinnamon, Madagascan vanilla and St Lucian cocoa, while the brandy butter uses Cognac graded to V.S.O.P and the whisky butter uses Yorkshire's first single malt. Savoury rolls include garlic and herb, black summer truffle and a chipotle butter made with smoked jalapeno.
Small batches
Each product is made in small batches of around 60 jars at a time, with hours spent weighing, blending and timing every batch to keep the flavour, texture and spreadability consistent.
Sustainability
No artificial additives or preservatives are used in any product, and the dairy partnership in Grassington means the majority of the milk travels a short distance from farm to production, supporting the local Yorkshire Dales farming community.
Awards
Great Taste Award recognition for the Honey & Cinnamon butter, and Garlic & Herb butter used by chef James Martin on his Saturday Kitchen show.
Where You'll Find Us
Stocked in farm shops, delis, butchers and hotels across Yorkshire and beyond, with a growing focus on retail and hospitality partners. The Yorkshire Kitchen also trade at country fairs and Christmas markets, including Chatsworth Country Fair, where their partnership with James Martin first began.

Both. The savoury rolls work well melted over meat, fish or potatoes, while the sweet butters are designed for spreading on puddings, pastries and cakes, or using as a baking ingredient.
Where does the milk come from
