Our Story
Ka Na began life as a family recipe long before it became a business. Growing up in a Punjabi household, food was at the heart of everything, and the kitchen was where stories were shared, celebrations began and family came together.
After more than 30 years in the corporate world, being made redundant gave Ka Na's founder, Ruby, the push to finally follow her dream and take her family's curry base recipe out into the world. Just four months after going full-time with Ka Na, the brand's award-winning products found their way onto the shelves of Selfridges, a reminder that staying true to those family recipes, making her own ghee and never using ultra-processed seed oils was worth believing in.
What started as a handful of treasured recipes has grown into a small batch range of curry bases, spice blends and snacks, each one carrying a piece of that Punjabi heritage forward into kitchens across the UK.
Meet The Team
Ka Na is founded and run by a Punjabi home cook turned entrepreneur Ruby, based in Maidenhead, Berkshire. After a career spanning more than 30 years in the corporate world, being made redundant gave her the push to finally take her family's curry recipes out of the home kitchen and into a business of her own.
Every product still carries her family's recipes forward, from the small batch curry bases to the handmade Mathi and slow-roasted Bombay Mix, with the same attention to detail whether she's packing orders at home or serving customers at a local market stall.
How It's Made
Every Ka Na product is made in small batches in Berkshire using traditional methods and quality ingredients, with no shortcuts. The signature Masala Curry Bases are built on a rich, slow-cooked onion and tomato base, seasoned with a blend of spices and finished with the brand's own handmade ghee, made using traditional methods for a deep, nutty flavour that shop-bought ghee doesn't match.
Alongside the curry bases sits a wider range of spice blends, including Garam Masala and Tandoori Mix, and a small snacks range built around handmade Mathi and slow-roasted Bombay Mix, all made the way they always have been in a Punjabi household kitchen, just at a slightly larger scale.
Sustainability
Ka Na makes a point of never using ultra-processed seed oils in its Masala Curry Bases, relying instead on its own handmade ghee, and everything is produced in small batches with quality ingredients rather than mass-produced shortcuts.
