Our Story
The Yorkshire Pasta Company started in 2020, when founder Kathryn Bumby set out to create Britain's first proper artisan pasta brand, using wheat grown on her own family's farm near Malton. She was 27 at the time, and the company has grown from a kitchen table project into a small team based at Quarry Park in West Heslerton, North Yorkshire.
The pasta is now stocked in more than 500 independent shops, farm shops and delis across the UK, alongside Harvey Nichols and Selfridges, and has been featured on James Martin's Saturday Morning show.
Meet The Team
Kathryn founded the company and still leads it today, alongside her sister-in-law Beth, who heads up production and manufactures every batch of pasta using the same traditional methods learned in Italy.
The rest of the small team, including Martha, Rosie and Toby, handle packing and dispatch by hand, sealing every paper bag themselves rather than relying on machinery.
How It's Made
Wheat flour is sourced from a local mill and mixed with cold water, using a closely guarded ratio developed by the founder. No eggs are used, so every shape is naturally vegan.
Bronze drawn
The dough is pushed through traditional bronze dies rather than the teflon dies used by most large manufacturers, giving each piece a rough surface that holds sauce far better than mass produced pasta.
Slow dried
Each shape is dried slowly overnight at low temperatures, a process that can take up to two days rather than a couple of hours, allowing the flavour to properly develop.
Packed by hand
Every bag is filled and sealed by hand in the company's paper packaging, finished with two metal eyelets rather than a plastic seal.
Sustainability
Plastic free packaging
Over 40 different packaging options were tested before settling on a fully recyclable paper bag, sealed with metal eyelets that can go straight in the recycling alongside the paper itself.
Low carbon footprint
Production runs on solar power, boxes are sealed with paper tape instead of plastic, and any food waste is fed to cattle on a neighbouring farm rather than going to landfill.
Locally sourced flour
Wheat is milled locally, travelling an average of 25 miles from field to mill and then straight to the pasta works, supporting over 160 local farms in the process.
Vegan friendly
With only wheat flour and water in every recipe, the full range is suitable for vegans.
Awards
Five Great Taste Awards, five Great British Food Awards judged by Michel Roux Jr., and a finalist place in the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.
Featured on James Martin's ITV Saturday Morning show, and praised by chefs including Marco Pierre White, Michel Roux Jr. and Gennaro Contaldo.
Where You'll Find Us
Stocked in more than 500 independent shops, farm shops and delis across the UK, as well as Harvey Nichols and Selfridges.
The team also attends food festivals and markets across Yorkshire throughout the year, including the Great Yorkshire Show.
