Our Story
Sipp'd was founded by school friends Oliver (Oli) Sinclair and Ashlum (Ash) Patel. Their journey began in 2018 after attempting to make an alcoholic ginger beer. Although the recipe was far from successful, it sparked a fascination with drink making that led them to experiment with everything from kombucha and cider to shrubs, kefir and handcrafted sodas.
Both working as chartered accountants at the time, Oli and Ash spent countless evenings researching ingredients, refining recipes and learning the science behind drink production. Eventually they left their careers behind to build their own drinks business, establishing a small production facility at Patch Park Farm in Abridge, Essex.
The Covid-19 pandemic forced the business to adapt before it had properly launched. Unable to move forward as planned, they turned to pressing surplus apples from local Essex farms, discovering the incredible diversity of flavours found in different apple varieties. That unexpected change became the foundation of Sipp'd's award-winning small-batch Essex apple juice range.
As production grew, the founders returned to their original ambition of creating exceptional handcrafted sodas. Today Sipp'd produces a range of drinks made with real fruit, fresh juice, botanicals, unrefined cane sugar and Essex sea salt, never using artificial flavourings, colourings or sweeteners. Every drink is still crafted with the same philosophy that inspired the business from the very beginning: use outstanding ingredients and let natural flavour do the talking.
Meet The Team
Oliver Sinclair and Ashlum Patel founded Sipp'd after swapping careers in accountancy for life in artisan drinks production. Their shared passion for quality ingredients and creative flavour combinations transformed a hobby into one of Essex's most exciting independent drinks businesses.
Working closely together, Oli and Ash remain involved in every stage of the business, from pressing apples and juicing fruit to developing recipes, producing drinks and introducing customers to handcrafted sodas that contain nothing artificial.
How It's Made
Sipp'd produces every drink using real ingredients rather than artificial flavourings. Fresh fruit is juiced in-house before being blended with botanicals, filtered water, unrefined cane sugar and a pinch of Essex sea salt to create naturally balanced flavours.
During the British apple season, the team sources surplus and locally grown apples from farms across Essex and Kent, pressing single varieties in small batches to showcase the unique character of each apple. Throughout the year they continue crafting their soda range using fresh juices and carefully selected ingredients, producing every bottle at their Essex facility.
Unlike many commercial soft drinks, Sipp'd uses no artificial flavourings, colourings or sweeteners, allowing the quality of the ingredients to take centre stage.
Sustainability
Sipp'd supports local fruit growers by sourcing surplus and seasonal apples directly from farms across Essex and Kent. By pressing fruit that might otherwise go unused, the company helps reduce waste while celebrating Britain's apple-growing heritage.
Glass bottles are used throughout the range because they are infinitely recyclable, and the business continues to explore further ways of improving sustainability as it grows.
