Our Story

Lovepickle was founded in January 2013 by Michael Sohel, who left behind a management career in the City to bring an old family recipe to a wider audience. The recipe for a unique chilli tomato pickle had been enjoyed by his family and friends for years before he decided to turn it into a business.

Michael has described the result as a "quality product that delivers on taste, texture and appearance", and the range struck a chord immediately, picking up a Great Taste Award and a National Chilli Award for Best Pickle in its first year of trading.

Since then the range has grown from the original pickle to include Lovechutney and Lovechilli, with new flavours added over the years including a tamarind chutney, a spiced mango chutney and a spiced lemon chutney, all still handmade in small batches in Yorkshire.

Meet The Team

Lovepickle is the creation of founder Michael Sohel, a former investment bank business manager who swapped his City career to build a food brand around his family's pickle recipe. Following a soft launch in 2012, he took the brand to market nationally in 2013 and has continued to develop the range ever since, including bringing Lovechutney and Lovechilli to the same family of products.

How It's Made

The Lovepickle, Lovechutney and Lovechilli range is produced in Yorkshire, using local suppliers where possible, and is handmade using traditional methods rather than large scale factory production.

  • Made from ripe tomatoes, fresh chillies, garlic, ginger, mustard oil and seeds and a selection of herbs and spices
  • No artificial flavours, colourings or preservatives
  • All products are vegetarian, vegan and plant based
  • An ambient product with a shelf life of around 12 months

Sustainability

Every product in the range is vegetarian, vegan and plant based, made with natural ingredients and no artificial flavours, colourings or preservatives.

For the airline catering side of the business, Lovepickle uses biodegradable Ecopods, taking responsibility for the full lifecycle of its packaging rather than relying on single use plastics.

  • Great Taste Award and National Chilli Award for Best Pickle (FFUK), won in Lovepickle's first year of trading (2013)
  • Gold Star Great Taste Award for Lovechutney Tamarind (2014)

What customers think

Food bloggers have been quick to praise both the look and the taste of the range. The Foodie Family Blog described being won over by the bold, simple jar design before even trying the product, then found the pickle "really was excellent", going as far as saying they would ask for extra if it was served alongside an Indian meal. They were equally taken with the tamarind chutney, calling it a "delightful chutney" worth serving with cheese, as a glaze for meat, or as a traditional dip.
